From Families

In Their Own Words

My mother has been with Zindara for nearly two years now. She came to us anxious and a little withdrawn after my father passed, and the change in her over these months has been something none of us expected. She has a routine she actually looks forward to โ€” the Wednesday craft sessions especially. The team simply took time to understand who she is as a person, not just what she needs medically.

We were based in Singapore while my father was in Chiang Mai, and the Evening Companionship service gave us a degree of peace we genuinely hadn't had for months. The morning updates from his caregiver were brief but thoughtful โ€” small things, like that he'd asked for extra rice or stayed up watching television longer than usual. Small details that meant we felt connected even from far away.

My grandmother has Alzheimer's and when she moved into the Clinical Comfort Residence tier we were very nervous about how the transition would go. The primary nurse who was assigned to her, Warangkana, took the time to sit with us over two separate conversations before admission. The familiarity of the same small team has made an enormous difference to how settled she is day to day.

What stood out for me was that nobody ever tried to push us toward the most expensive option. Pongthep was honest that the Residential Wellbeing tier would meet Dad's needs comfortably, and that was what they recommended. That kind of transparency is not something you take for granted when you're making a decision this significant.

The food genuinely surprised me. I expected the kind of bland institutional meals you find in larger care facilities. Instead, my uncle's meals are fresh every day, and Kanchana has been thoughtful about adapting them to his preference for Northern Thai flavours. He actually mentions the food when we call. That small thing tells you a lot about the level of care and attention here.

My parents are both at Zindara, in different tiers. My father is in Residential Wellbeing and my mother, who has more complex health needs, is in the Clinical tier. The care team handles their different situations with complete individuality โ€” they are never treated as a package. Being able to visit them both in one place and speak with a team that genuinely knows them has been an unexpected comfort for our whole family.

Case Studies

A Closer Look at Three Care Journeys

These case study summaries have been shared with the consent of the families involved. Names have been changed to protect privacy.

From Isolation to Engagement โ€” Residential Wellbeing

The Situation

A 79-year-old retired teacher had been living alone after the passing of her husband. Her children, based in Bangkok, noticed she was withdrawing socially and eating poorly. She was reluctant to leave her home and resistant to the idea of a care facility.

The Approach

Rather than a sudden move, we arranged two afternoon visits to Zindara before admission โ€” low-pressure introductions to the environment and a few members of the care team. Her room was arranged to include some of her own furniture, and we identified that she enjoyed writing and traditional Thai verse as interests to build activities around.

After Six Months

She leads an informal group reading session on Friday afternoons. Her appetite has improved significantly. Her daughter told us that their video calls now tend to run long โ€” she has things to tell them. That, for us, is the most meaningful outcome.

Continuity Through a Difficult Transition โ€” Clinical Comfort Residence

The Situation

An 84-year-old man with advancing dementia and a recent hip surgery was discharged from hospital into a temporary care arrangement that was not meeting his needs. His family in Chiang Mai were exhausted and uncertain how to proceed.

The Approach

Our family liaison worked directly with his daughter over several calls to understand his personality, history, and preferences before he arrived. We coordinated with his hospital team on his post-surgical care plan and assigned a primary nurse with specialist dementia experience. A small familiar care team was assembled around him from day one.

Ongoing Outcome

He has been at Zindara for eight months. His daughter describes the care team as people her father now recognises by name, which in itself has had a calming effect. His family describes feeling genuinely involved in care decisions, which they had not experienced in the previous arrangement.

Distance Care Made Manageable โ€” Evening Companionship

The Situation

A 76-year-old woman was managing well during the day but experiencing falls and nighttime disorientation. Her son was based overseas and her family had no immediate presence in Chiang Mai. Placing her in a full residential setting felt premature, but leaving her alone overnight was no longer safe.

The Approach

Evening Companionship was arranged with a consistent caregiver, arriving daily at 16:00. The caregiver's morning reports were shared digitally with the family overseas. A care coordinator reviewed the reports monthly and flagged any emerging patterns to discuss with the family.

After Four Months

No further falls. The family described the service as giving them back their sleep. The resident herself, initially resistant, has grown comfortable with her caregiver's presence and now looks forward to their evening conversations.
